Ten organisations and individuals from Argyll to Orkney are celebrating following the announcement of the winners of the prestigious Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards for 2011 in Inverness tonight (21 October). The Awards, organised by the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Forum, and supported by Highlands & Islands Enterprise, recognise the best use of local food and drink, healthier food and drink, good environmental practice, innovation, businesses working in collaboration with each other, as well as new products and new businesses. 

Five top-quality establishments in the Highlands and Islands have been shortlisted for the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Forum’s Restaurant of the Year Award. One of ten awards being presented at the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards, the winner of Restaurant of the Year will be announced at a glittering award ceremony on Friday 21 October at Drumossie Hotel, Inverness. Restaurants, cafes and other eating establishments throughout the Highlands and Islands are invited to enter for the prestigious Highlands & Islands Restaurant of the Year Award.

The Highland Food & Drink Forum announced today that the deadline for entries to the 2011 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards has been extended until Sunday 24 July. The organisers decided on the extension after feedback from a number of companies suggested that an already busy time of year had been more hectic than usual given the major events taking place in the area recently.

Individuals, business and organisations are reminded that entries for the 2011 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards must be in by Monday 4 July.

Businesses and individuals in the food and drink industry throughout the region are called to celebrate their talent and effort by entering the 2011 Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.

Thirty three companies, individuals and organisations across the Highlands and Islands are celebrating today as the shortlist for this year’s Williamson Foodservice Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards is announced (see editors notes for full list). A record number of entries were received for the 2010 Awards, which aim to recognise and encourage high standards and excellence within the food and drink industry.

Nick Nairn, Scotland’s best known chef, will share his passion for excellence with award winners and guests at this year’s Williamson Foodservice Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards taking place on 29 October 2010. Fellow BBC Scotland colleague, Catriona Shearer, will host the glittering ceremony at the Drumossie Hotel, Inverness.

The Awards, organised by the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Forum and supported by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scotland Food & Drink, are open to individuals, businesses and organisations throughout the Highlands and Islands. They aim to promote high standards by rewarding success in a wide range of categories including those for new products, partnership working, developing skills, encouraging healthy products and for the best eating place.
