Bob and Lynn Henshelwood began creating their own pickles, chutneys, mustards and jams on a commercial scale at the beginning of 2006. Their business is dedicated to providing fine foods for independent retailers using the best available seasonal ingredients and with the minimum possible food miles. And all their products are preserved using natural ingredients, spiced and flavoured to their own unique recipes. As part of their business development, Henshelwoods was devising a range of new products including chutneys and pickles. Proprietor Bob Henshelwood explains: “We felt that pickles and chutneys had to be brought up to date to get away from the chequered table cloth feel of them. We also found that often people didn’t really know how to serve chutney - so Lynn developed a range of Chutney For.... Chicken, Cheese, and so on, to help customers marry flavours to create a taste sensation on their plate. Lynn is great at creating new tastes; she has a real talent for coming up with unique ingredient combinations to create interesting, yet appealing flavours.”
Bob continued: “The new range of Chutney For... products quickly a best seller for us. We were delighted when this won the New Product Award at the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards in 2007, and you can now buy Chutney For.... in retailer outlets throughout the UK and Ireland.” Lynn’s expertise in creating new tastes and exciting new products has ensured Henshelwoods are causing a stir in fine food retailing with their products now sold in over 200 outlets across the UK and Ireland. Bob explained: “Retailers tell us that they have not had anything really new in the market for years and Henshelwoods products are really filling a gap. As experienced Deli owners ourselves, we recognise that independent retailers need innovative products with eye-catching shelf appeal. Independent retailers also need to fulfil their customers' demands for exciting, tasty foods free of artificial additives and low on food miles. The Highlands and Islands Food and Drink New Product Award is just one of several for Henshelwoods Fine Foods this year – their Chutney For Game Pie and Cold Meats and the Star Anise with Pink Peppercorn Mustard were both awarded Gold Medals Great Taste Awards. Bob said: “The Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Award helps to bring more recognition and credibility for Henshelwoods, particularly when dealing with others in the industry, as well as consumers. Bob and Lynn are not resting on their laurels: “We work hard to maintain high standards in the products we offer – we both regularly visit suppliers to ensure our ingredients are the best available.
